The Meaning Behind the name Tyger Songbird

Who is Tyger Songbird?

Well, when you get to know me, it might seem quite obvious when you know my real name is Tyler Stevenson, and Tyger Songbird can fit my initials of T.S.

However, the moniker of Tyger Songbird fits me in more ways than just my initials. Tyger Songbird tells not only my story but also my duality—ferocious yet peace-seeking.

Out of all the things in the world, there is one quality that I cherish amongst the highest: peace.

Peace of mind, tranquility, silence, solitude—these are qualities I find invaluable.

Growing up in a world that is oftentimes so chaotic, peace is something I must obtain on a daily basis, hourly basis at that.

One of the places where I find my greatest peace is alone in my room singing with my headphones on. It is there where I find my querencia. I am a songbird by nature. Just turning on the music and singing to my favorite song gets my mind back at ease, away from the chaos. Music is a querencia for me.

Be that as it may, peace would always be short-lived growing up, because I didn’t know the truth of who I was.

For so long, I had ferociously searched for the answers to who I am. I was living in identity crisis for so many years, uncertain as to who I am as a person, feeling like an extraterrestrial outsider and misfit in every single way to the culture.

I didn’t feel like I belonged anywhere. I didn’t fit in with my peers, and I just felt uncomfortable in my own skin. I didn’t seem to fit the stereotypes, norms, and scripts that I was expected to live up to. None of those things ever fit me, better yet.

It took me until I was 26 to truly find the real me, to find out about asexuality, and to realize that asexuality is who I am as a sexual orientation. It took me until 30 to discover I’m also aromantic. The truth I had been fiercely searching for was finally found, and upon finding it, peace was restored.

My high school alma mater was the Tigers (Shout-out Broken Arrow), and I had to fiercely discover my truth, like a tiger. Finding that truth helped this Tiger reclaim his peace, his inner Songbird.

Thus, the name Tyger Songbird. I’m a fierce-seeker of true peace, and I’m here to help others discover the same.
